October means an abundance of fall fun is in store for us, including football, the return of some of our favorite fall beers, and plenty of festivals for our patrons to partake in before joining us at Pizza Tugos. Currently on our radar are Oktoberfest-inspired events, including two that are just a short drive from Tugos – Berlin’s Octoberfest celebration and Ocean City’s O.C.toberfest. In Ocean City, O.C.toberfest spans several weekends, and includes a Howl-O-Ween Pet Parade this Saturday, followed by the Drive in Disguise Halloween Parade next Saturday. The jury is still out regarding the path of Hurricane Joaquin, but it’s safe to say that no matter what direction the storm ends up heading, we are in for a lot of rain here in Ocean City. This isn’t welcome news for the area events and festivals scheduled for this weekend, including the Seagull Century and Wine on the Beach, but at Pizza Tugos, we love a good excuse to hole up and pig out on pizza, wings, and all of our favorite menu items. Last weekend was admittedly a little chilly and cloudy for our liking, but this weekend’s forecast is calling for nothing but clear skies, sunshine, and temperatures averaging in the mid-80s. Shortly stated, it’s looking like a perfect beach weekend here in OCMD…and just in time for the annual OC Beach Ultimate Frisbee Tournament! The tournament will be held Saturday, August 15 and Sunday, August 16 from 9am until 5pm on the beach at Somerset Street in downtown Ocean City, with a special showcase game at 6pm on Saturday evening. Over 30 teams will compete in the Elite or Open divisions over the weekend, vying for the championship title. Ocean City is just days away from one of the biggest events of the summer…the White Marlin Open! The annual tournament is a major event for our town and it just so happens to be the world’s largest bill fishing tournament. Over 300 boats typically participate in the five-day tournament, vying for over $2 million in prize money. For spectators, the event is equally as exciting with daily weigh-ins at the Harbour Island Marina on 14th Street. Major crowds turn out to watch as massive fish are hauled up onto the docks to be weighed. As the week goes on, excitement builds as the competition heats up. Definitely a must-see event for anyone in Ocean City! One of our favorite parts about living so close to the beach is the number of family-friendly events that are held on our local beaches throughout the summer. From Movies on the Beach to Beach Family Olympics, the Town of Ocean City does a terrific job of keeping our locals and visitors entertained all summer long. This weekend, beachgoers will enjoy the Ocean City Beach Patrol Crew Competitions.
